Overview

Mirkonia is a personal website (Mirkon's) that strives to deliver content above the par. Whether in crafting CGI/Perl server-side scripts to deliver dynamic and interactive web pages, or creating original content, Mirkonia attempts to be something more than Yet Another Website.

Mirkonia 2.0 is hosted by everyone's favorite corporation, SneezePower.com. SneezePower is dedicated to the initiative of introducing reasonably practical sneeze-powered technology to the sneezing consumer. They also host websites.

Technical Issues

Mirkonia 2.0 operates on the following client-side (browser) technologies:
♦ Frames
♦ Javascript
♦ CSS
♦ Other miscellaneous HTML

Mirkonia mostly operates around a thin-client design - that is, not exceptionally dependent upon a user's browser - but there are still many things that can go awry. If you have Javascript disabled, you'll miss out on not only some nifty features, but a portion of Mirkonia 2.0's functionality. Though many people inherently dislike frames, Mirkonia implements them in a functional navigation format (and if you still don't like them, you can kill them off easily enough).

Older browsers, and even newer versions of Internet Explorer, may not support many CSS and higher-HTML elements. If you're having problems with these, and you're not using the most recent available version of your browser, you may want to upgrade. Some suggestions:

Opera is a swift browser with many advanced features like tabs and ad blocking, and works on Windows, Mac OS, Mac OS X, and Linux.

Mozilla is a complete browser suite (browser, mail, IRC, and more) with approximately the same advanced features, and is also available on Windows, Mac OS (up to version 1.2.1), Mac OS X, Linux, and many other operating systems. You can also download the browser component Firefox (or a more Aqua OS X version, Camino) separately.

Netscape is essentially identical to Mozilla, but slightly further behind (and slightly more stable), with similar compatibility.

If you're upgraded and still encountering problems, or you can't upgrade due to system limitations, email Mirkon and he'll see what can be done.

Navigation

The general layout of Mirkonia 2.0 relies on three frames: a navigation frame to the left, which lists all the available contents of the user's current location; a content frame to the right, displaying a page to be viewed; and a command frame below.

Mirkonia 2.0 is designed to be easy to use for users of all skill levels. Those more comfortable with clicking and straightforward website sections will prefer the command frame's shortcut menu to more relevant parts of the site. People who like exploring can click away in the navigation frame and see what Mirkonia has to offer (for convenience, if a directory has an index page, it will automatically be displayed in the content frame).

Advanced users and swift typists who like their content quick and simple will appreciate the command frame's Command Line Interface (CLI), which, with the proper basic knowledge of its commands, is the most powerful way to directly interface with Mirkonia. To be friendly to developers, Mirkonia also tries to make its pages' HTML source easy to read, and Mirkonia's CGI/Perl scripts are open-source upon request.

Privacy/Security

In the spirit of the thin-client philosophy, Mirkonia does little to interfere with or compromise the end user's position - very little.

Mirkonia currently uses zero cookies.

The Poll records your IP address when you vote, but keeps it in a relatively secure file, and does not coordinate it with what you voted for. All voter information is stripped from the server when the poll is archived.

Graphics Disclaimer

Mirkonia 2.0 contains a wide variety of images, be they archived in the images/ directory or as ambient decor in another section. A lot of these images have been shamelessly ripped from other sites, created by other people. Mirkonia's philosophy is that freely available images are to be freely used, but if you're the creator of something on this site and have a problem with that, contact Mirkon and something can probably be worked out.
